Our journey has even more meaning in the current destabilising context
Our original plans have been significantly altered several times, and the outlook for the future is well marked by the global crisis, environmentally, sanitary and politically. Fear and uncertainty spread and many personal dreams are postponed to face more urgent issues.
However hard it may sometimes seem to us, we still want to believe that we CAN make our dream come true, even now, even if the obstacles that we face on our road are much more frequent and impressive than we could have ever imagined. Not only the outside world, but even our inner family dynamics can be very turbulent and sometimes far from peaceful. Our baby and small kids grew into children and juveniles that don't hesitate to express their point of view, which can sometimes be very time-consuming. And still, we are so happy to be together and to get to really know one another and ourselves too.
Several times a year we check with all the team members if they still want to travel and so far no one hesitates: YES! As making new plans doesn't seem to make much sense, we just stick to our original plan and keep changing the years on the map. Once we get somewhere, we'll know if that plan was realistic or not. Either way, being on the road and discovering everything we encounter is a goal in itself. The end result is less and less important to us.
This summer Petr has come up with new ideas to adapt our route to reality. We will try to go faster, avoid danger zones and go straight to the spectacular places. Just in case we run out of money or patience with each other.
Autumn - Winter 2022 → Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal and Gambia
Spring 2022 → Return to Europe, ideally via Algeria, Tunisia & Italy (but this seems highly unlikely) or via Spain
Summer 2023 → Put Tao on a cargo ship to South Africa, and then explore southern Africa
2024 ? → The Americas
2025 ? → Asia
2026 ? → Arthur will be an adult wildlife photographer and driving his own vehicle… ;-)
It seems almost impossible to imagine what will be more than a few months from now, let alone a few years. What we do know is that the pace of the trip will take into account our children's needs and the specific itinerary will be specified gradually, depending on our contacts and the current situation in each country. And everything will probably NOT go as we would have expected. But it will be worth it, and we are sure that we will remember all the steps of our trip when we are old. For now, we'll see. Inshallah.
